I did discover that the only way to stop the AVG Resident Shield is to
remove the virus scanner completely. This is not a good solution. However,
it does not take long to remove it and re-install it.

I have heard that to get rid of the "20000 millisecond timeout" message that
I need to recompile the kernel. While that is a risky move, that is
something I am willing to do. I have a large server with over 600 GB that
needs to be backed up. I now have about four or five failed backups to show
for that, and all of them are due to this problem. I have already disabled
the virus scanner.

I am not interested in starting backups and having them quit somewhere along
the way. I need backup software that will start a full backup and finish it.

How do I get rid of this?
