And I am now trying to use amrecover to extract the whole .spamassassin 
directory in /home/gene.  But:

I have even manually edited the /amandatapes/Dailys/data simlink to point at 
slot17.  So something in my install still isn't 'kosher'.  This is a vtape 
setup here.
