If the header block containing the label can still be read from the
bad tape, there's an easy way to fix this.
Well, I tried a
mt -f /dev/nst0 rewind
dd if=/dev/nst0 bs=32k count=1
and dd returned an input/output error, so it seems that the tape is a
goner. But that's good to know for the future!
