I've increased the dtimeout to 10800 so fingers crossed it works
tonight.

go to the clients which fail, and have a look into the /tmp/amanda
directory.
There should exist some files called sendbackup.<timstamp>.debug.
have a look at these files, especialy at the last line in them.
it sould contain something like

"sendbackup: time 157.122 pid 12595 finish time Thu Aug 03:16:36 2004"

interesting for you is the part folowing "time". it gives the time in
seconds the backup of that disk took to finish.
take the bigest value you find in all those files, and take that value
as a startingpoint for dtimeout.
It will be much to big, but that won't do you some harm unless you have
hosts beeing offline regularly in your configuration.
