Usually, the only time you need to run amcleanup is if the tape server
crashes during a backup. or if Amanda is hung for some odd reason like
running out of memory. In those cases you should kill stray Amanda
processes first and then run amcleanup.
After that you can run amflush to move any remaining files on the
holding disk to tape. Although the amflush command returns you to
your prompt quickly, it is still running in the background writing to
tape and will email you when it's done.

I think amstatus just summarizes the current log, so it shows the
last state of the current backup, even after the backup is finished.
Since your backup was killed, amstatus is showing you where it was
at the time it died.
