Ken:

1. Look at your last e-mail reports from Amanda and get the disklist from
the list of DLEs backed up.

2. Another way is to grovel through the reports in the "logdir" directory
listed in your configuration's amanda.conf file.

3. Yet another is to go to the index directory in your "logdir" and do a
recursive list of directories underneath the index directory. This will
give you all your systems and DLEs on each system (after translating each
single '_' to a '/' and each double '__' to a single '_'.

Note that these actions will miss any DLEs that have not yet been backed up
or any that you had commented out of the disklist file. You may want to
look at the archives for the procedures that Gene Heskett
[gene.heskett AT verizon DOT net] put together to save his configuration
automatically. Another solution is to do a simple copy of your Amanda
configuration and log area to another system after each backup. (Which I do
with a crontab entry to copy the entire Amanda admin area to another server
at a different site for safekeeping.) It doesn't version, but I always have
a copy of the latest Amanda state each morning.

Best wishes,

I made one of those ironic little glitches today: I was deleting old
disklist files, when someone asked me an unrelated question, and wound
up deleting "disklist*". Wups. And the ironic factor, of course, is
that the amanda directory, itself, isn't backed up. [We've been
working on getting the server up-and-running, and hadn't yet gotten
around to putting itself in the disklist.] Is there any way to
re-create this without starting from scratch? Is it tucked in any log
file anywhere, or anything of that sort?

Thanks much...

Ken D'Ambrosio
