Amanda cannot do it that way. Each night's backup run must go to it's 
own tape.

You might achieve what you want if you have large enough holdingdisk. 
Just don't put the tape into drive until enough backups have 
accumulated on the holdingdisk, then flush the contents of holdingdisk 
to a tape using 'amflush'. Of course there is a risk, then, that 
something happens to the holdingdisk before you flush the data...
