I just checked alpha.gnu.org for the gnutar releases.
Hmm, don't you just love development and release cycles.

  *  they are not there now, but earlier there were all the point
     releases from about 1.13.10 - 1.13.25.  I still have several in
     my download directory.  Never saw anything newer after that.
     I last checked maybe three months ago.

     yet 1.13.90 was followed five weeks later with 1.13.91 and a week

In answer to Mark's question,  Don't know, your's is the first report
of using 1.13.9X.  You'll have to tell US how it works :))

However, given the rapid release of 1.13.91 and .92, I don't think I'd
stick with 1.13.90.
