If you use GNU tar you can backup NFS-mounted filesystems. I do that to
backup parts of our NetApps.

I haven't used HPUX in many years, but I'm guessing you need to export the
filesystem with the equivilent of no_root_squash on Linux or root= on
Solaris, since by default root gets mapped to nobody on many OSs.
