ahem, well, I just installed SuSe 7.3 with amanda and samba ready from the 
box.

I did not think about this, because in the former installation I also 
deinstalled amanda, got the download and configured it by myself.
Configure was not complaining about some missing things (I included the exact 
path to smbclient) but with amcheck I had the same problem.
I could try to do this again, but I fear, it does not make sense.
