Nick -

You're speculating, without analysis of what landed in each level of
the storage pool hierarchy.  You can most readily utilize the Query
CONTent with a negative Count value to do spot checking.  Further,
pore over the Activity Log for evidence of an over-HIghmig storage
pool migrating to tape during backups.

We lack sufficient details on the characteristics of your site
processing, but you are assuming that all objects should go to the
disk storage pool...  In fact, do *all* your management classes
specify that?  If not, and you are backing up Windows clients, then
it may well be that directories are going to tape rather than disk,
per TSM's directory preservation rules.  Your Activity Log would then
show tape mounts during the backups, and your client stats (including
in TSM Accounting) would show waits for media.

Dig in and find out the particulars there.
