There should be no problems, provided you understand what you are backing
up, and handle any database locking for files/partions on the EMC volumes.

To recap: TimeFinder allows you to define a number of Business Continuity
Volumes
(BCV) which act as duplicate volumes of the production volumes. On a RAID-1
configuration, they generally act as a third mirror disk; on RAID-S (EMC's
version of RAID-5) they mirror the data volumes, not the parity volume.

Bring the BCV volumes on line against the production data and allow them
to re-silver. The TimeFinder console will tell you when this has happened.
When
the resilver has completed, you need to quiesce your
database/application/etc
so that you can break the BCV's from the production data.

Then bring the BCV's on-line in their alternate mode. This need not be to
the
same system you have the production data on, it can be on an alternate
system but
unless the data is in raw partitions, you will need to make it the same type
of
system. You then use ADSM to backup the data off the BCV's whilst your
production data
remains on-line and active.

There are white papers about using Timefinder with oracle, where its fully
supported by Oracle.

What you will need to be careful about is that what you are backing up is
the TimeFinder
BCV's, not the production disks. So you will have different entries in the
File Spaces.
