Hello!

I have configuration:
AIX 5300-08-01-0819
TSM Server 5.3.2
TS3100
Library Firmware 7.30
Drive Firmware Revision 89B2 (LTO4 FH)

cartridge in library LTO-4 (800GB native/ 1600GB compressed )

Do you have any scratch tapes available? Perhaps checkin a tape as scratch and attempt to run a Database backup of the TSM server.

Ba db devcl=lt04 type=full

Since we ae using Atape.driver, I am suspecting that the TS3100 is by IBM.
The drives that are in the TS3100, I suspect that they are non-IBM.
If we are using non-IBM drives in the TS3100, should be using the TSM device driver
for the tape drives.

Good Luck,
Sias

Here are my details from AIX6.1 and 3582lib tape library

root@ /var/log/tsm/client # lsdev -Cc tape
rmt0 Available 03-08-00-2,0 IBM 3580 Ultrium Tape Drive
rmt1 Available 03-08-01-1,0 IBM 3580 Ultrium Tape Drive

Atape.driver 11.0.2.0 C F IBM AIX Enhanced Tape and
r
oot@/var/log/tsm/client # oslevel -r
6100-00

And indeed the details for my drives are :-

Library Name: 3582LIB
Drive Name: LTO1
Device Type: LTO
On-Line: Yes

So there is something incorrect with the drivers device driversnot picking up on LTO drives.

My drives on a Solaris box (Tape library is a L25) is Drive type: Generic.

thanks you all for answer!

You only have the 1 tape drive in the library.. lets update the devcl to format=drive.

update the device class and try the db backup again.

The tapes do have external labels? for some reason the the library is unable to read the external label and then it tries to mount the tape in a drive to read the internal label. and it fails reading the internal label.

Are the tapes new? have they been used in other Systems? Do you know if they where pre-labeled internally?

library issue

Hi,

I was just reviewing the outputs that you pasted. From the output of tapeutil, it seems most of your library slot status is showing as abnormal. I would like to take a look at the following outputs:

From TSM Server:
show library <library_name>
show slots <library_name>
q devlc lto4 f=d
q drive f=d
q path f=d
q library f=d

Additionally, I would like you to run the following steps:

On the TSM Server command prompt:

trace disable *
trace enable pvr mms na addmsg
trace begin /path/to/pvr.out
Run the db backup here.... wait for the backup to fail and then
trace end
trace disable *

Once you provide the above information, i will analyze and let you know. Though off the top of my head this looks like a device driver issue.

Regards,
Srikanth
