As stated below, the LTO-3 will not work in an LTO-2 drive. It will not
physically fit.
You can put an LTO-2 media into the LTO-3 drive and write to it. However,
you need to change the drive definition in NetBackup for that drive to be
hcart2 (or whatever is not in use). You HAVE to have the LTO-2 tape media
defined the exact same way as the drive that you are going to put it in.
You will also have to define a storage unit with this newly defined tape
drive type. Duplication uses storage units as the targets.
It is not a hard thing to do.

No. Backward compatibility isn't usually possible. The LTO3 format will
have a higher density than the older drives can work with.
