I am testing Legato 7.4 with SP2 and I was wondering if there was a client for Debian Linux? Anyone here have any experience working with that OS?
Your biggest problem is that it isn't supported - as such, if you run into problems and want to log a call for issues on that particular client, you will get significant push back from EMC support to the point that you may not be able to get support at all.

It is true to say that it is not supported, but what are you supposed to do in that case? Not back the box up? Move all your Linux boxes to a supported distro?

If you want a fully supported system, yes. That's what change control is about. Alternatively, design systems where data that needs to be protected can be backed up from a supported system (e.g., via NDMP or snapshots to another host, etc.)

However, being more pragmatic, my main point is that if you go and install unsupported operating systems, at least go in with your eyes wide open so you can have contingency plans.

Cheers,

Preston.
