Your biggest problem is that it isn't supported - as such, if you run into problems and want to log a call for issues on that particular client, you will get significant push back from EMC support to the point that you may not be able to get support at all.

It is true to say that it is not supported, but what are you supposed to do in that case? Not back the box up? Move all your Linux boxes to a supported distro?

One of the problems of an open source OS is that the enthusiastic users don't manage to agree on a single distro. There are distros designed for certain purposes (e.g. Ubuntu for ease of use, gentoo for optimisation and customisation etc.) and no commercial software vendor such as EMC is ever going to be willing and able to support all of them. However if you accept the lack of support it should be possible to make NetWorker work on any of them.

Personally I started on Slackware and moved to RedHat when it became widely used. I left RedHat when they split into a commercial version and Fedora and decided that gentoo was the best distro for my needs. I do have NetWorker running (server and client) on gentoo so it shows that it can be done. There is no ebuild for NetWorker and whatever method you use to install it is a compromise. I have tried it with the rpmtocpio method, but this doesn't install the startup script, so now I have installed RPM on my machines and have to take care of the dependencies manually.
