As you say, XP Media Centre Edition is probably not supported. However:

Do you in fact need to back up the "SYSTEM STATE:\" save set at all? Would
you ever use your NetWorker backup to do the bare metal restore? A lot of
users would just rebuild the OS and restore the data from backup.
