I have spent the better part of 1999 investigation Client/Server backup
and recovery tools. The EMC solution uses proprietary connections between
the EMC DASD box and FDR on OS390.
If you can assure you will always be running EMC DASD you're O.K. But, if
another DASD vendor should develop a superior product, you're stuck. The
big difference with Tivoli is that it will use your network to transfer the
data. A Tivoli solution may require some network infrastructure
improvements.
