Michelle,

We backup almost exclusively NT server clients and they function with the ADSM
server almost identically to Unix clients.

If the backup is completing (or even starting), you should see an indication of
this by querying the filespace (q files nodename f=d). If you manually start an
incremental backup and it completes, you should see that reflected in the
filespace information for the node. If you don't see that, I can only suggest
you verify that (1 your client nodename is what you think it is and (2 your ADSM
server is what you think it is. The easiset way to do this, if you're running a
V3 client, is to launch the ADSM client GUI, choose File/Connection Information.

Regarding scheduled backups, a client file nomally called DSMSCHED.LOG contains
detailed logged events reflecting the status of scheduled backups for that
client. You can peruse that file to get a clue of what might have happened to
scheduled backups. If the file doesn't exist, then the ADSM Scheduler service
hasn't been started (or perhaps not even created; that is a follow-on step done
after the basic product installation). You can also get basic status
information from the ADSM server (q event * * node=nodename) but that will only
give you a one-liner (complete, missed, failed, etc) that may still require you
to go back to the client for more information.

Check this out and if you can't figure out what is going on, please re-post with
what other information you might have found.

Subject: ADSM NT question

Greetings!

I have a question relating to the reporting of
backups on NT with ADSM.

Currently we are backing up nearly 100% unix
machines (SunOs, Solaris, NetApp, and HP-UX)
but we've added a test bed of 3 NT machines
since we plan to roll out desktop backups
in the near future.

My question is, remembering please I am a unix
person and know very little NT, how can I check
the status of these NT backups? They are
scheduled and I figure I can pull up the activity
log for that. From my file spaces report I'm
not seeing any activity on those machines.

One is my own and if I do a manual backup
through the GUI, it says it completes, I
can do restores, but the file spaces report doesn't
get updated.

Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
