1st q:  I just do a RESTORE VOLUME when I'm dealing with a single volume
that is damaged.

2nd q: Yes.
If the volume still shows up when you do a Q LIBV, do a CHECKOUT LIBV to get
it out of ADSM's inventory of scratch tapes.
