Jorge,
Your Win2K systems come with an SNMP agent that supports the Host Resources MIB so you can use SNMP to ask systems-type questions (very similar to the old IBM SIA). Not sure what XP ships in terms of SNMP agent. The NT agent that comes as standard, doesn't support Host Resources - I've not really found a godd publicly-available solution. I use the net-snmp agent on various Unix flavours but last time I checked, I don't believe net-snmp covered Host Resources on NT - worth a check back though - http://net-snmp.net.

Cheers,
Jane

Netview 7.1.2 Solaris in SunBlade 1000

Here at my shop we are basically Unix based, so all our Network and Server
monitoring experience is on this type of platform. The time has come to
start monitoring some windows servers since they are becoming more popular
for low impact services. One System administrator asked for ideas on how to
monitor his windows servers (NT, 2000, XP) for systems and network and
maybe application errors. He has probably 30 Windows servers spread through
out the Campus. He would like the solution to be platform independent to
any Windows OS flavor.

The idea is to have some kind of application in the servers doing the
monitoring and have it send traps to Netview, instead of having the Netview
server polling for variables (he is not to keen in the idea of running the
snmp daemon)
For those shops out there monitoring Windows servers; how are you
performing the system monitoring?

Is there a Tivoli SIA agent for windows? If so, is it easy to configure? If
it is time consuming, chances are it will not be an option?

Is there any freeware that can perform this?

Any information is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
