I have gone for the instant Name Resolution option (/etc/Hosts).

why I needed to know:-

I have a subnet dedicated to Network Hubs and for that reason they have not
been put into the DNS.  I have now added an entry for each of the possible
entries naming them HO_HUB_(n).  This will at least give the 24/7 Operations
team a more user friendly message in the Tivoli Enterprise Console. We also
have a number of other Network devices on other subnets that are not using
DNS.
