Hi Eddie

NW 734 is not supported. If it is critcal data what you are going to backup,
do forget about usupported versions of Nw. You need to install Nw 7.5.* or
7.6.*

As you have quite a number of inodes on that file system my suggestion is to
look for block-level alternatives, like Snapimage, which can also create file
index entries (usig some NDMP mechanism, I think).

Backing up such an amount of files may take 2-3 days for full backups
depending of the average size of the files.

The NetWorker SnapImage Solaris Module 2.5 release was planned for Q2 2011.
and the alpha release period was Feb-March. It is not available from PL yet
but you may want to contact EMC for additional information and release dates.

I can't tell if it will support SPARC, intel or both.

I think that any contemporary major backup software should be able to realize that the file system it is backing up is large (actually this should be done for each directory) and should be able to launch as many parallel threads that are required to make sure that the backup will not crawl. Obviously, this will requires some changes to the storage node software as well, but then again such filesystems are common these days. As suggested above, backing up a snapshot is also a good idea and it is expected that the backup software will realize that and create a snapshot for this purpose (ZFS, LVM etc are all candidates for such support).

Saying this, don't hold your breath for EMC to implement such improvements, because they don't care about the quality of the product, only about features which can boost sales.
