Wow, and I thought our 17.6 Mllion file FS was large!   

Well, we use windows, and you are talking a different OS, and from what
I understand inodes just contain metadata, and not actual file names.
Not sure how that will translate. 

Our 17.6 million files take about 48 hours to run a full backup (once a
month), and we don't come anywhere near filling up a 1 Gig NIC.
Traversing the file tree/directory tree takes all of the time. Not sure
if that translates to Solaris.   

I'd love to hear the answer on this, as well.
