Hello,
Most likely the compression is enabled on the drive, you can query that by
utilizing NTUTIL ( IBM) or similar utility that comes with the drive\Lib
Vendor.

This is driver dependent. I am not sure how you would do it in Windows.
In Solaris you would choose the hbn device rather than the cbn device.
