Was that back in the old raidtab days? With current versions, if the
partition types are FD (autodetect), all the working disks should be
started at bootup, and since 1 disk is enough for raid1 to start it is
hard to go wrong. About the only way you can break a raid1 setup is to
combine disks from different machines that were previously running as
the same md device number. Then one or the other will install but you
won't know which ahead of time. Raid5 can be more complicated, but I
probably wouldn't do that in software.
