Sounds like a good compromise.

hmm, might be.

That compatibility breaks things for me and other users of modern mtx on
the other hand ... if it is there for that reason at all.

Did older versions of mtx not have that "-f" ? (I dunno ....)

Testing for the release of mtx inside of chg-zd-mtx would be a bit more
work to do than making the script set $CHANGER .

So I think this would be a fast and working fix, yes.

Permissions on $changerdev are another topic/responsibility, I assume.
