I then ran kudzu -p
which gave me the following info on tape-device and changer:
class: OTHER
bus: SCSI
detached: 0
device: sg1
driver: ignore
desc: "Hp C7200"
host: 0
id: 14
channel: 0
lun: 0
generic: sg1

class: TAPE
bus: SCSI
detached: 0
device: st
driver: ignore
desc: "Hp Ultrium 1-SCSI"
host: 0
id: 13
channel: 0
lun: 0
generic: sg0

So the tape device has changed to sg0 on it's own? either way
substituting /dev/nst0 with /dev/sg0 produces the same error so my
thought is that the tape drive is malfunctioning?
