I believe thats true.  However, its a bit like having all your eggs in 
one basket, so most of keep at least 2*runspercycle tapes.  That way 
if the first backups no good, you can back up a day at a time until a 
good one has been found.  Tapes for some drives (DDSn) are cheap, 
while some of the others definitely come in the "Oh my gawd" 
territory.  The latter will make you manage the tape stock for 
minimum cost.  Which is why I just spent a hair over 200 for a 200GB 
disk drive and made virtual tapes out of it.
