I have upgraded gnutar version to 1.14 and everything works fine.

In Kevin's defense, compiling new versions of Amanda on AIX has proved
to be difficult, if it is even possible (I have yet to succeed with
anything newer than 2.4.2p2).  If you, or anyone else, has had success
with it, I would love to hear how.
