Dump programs are specific to the filesystem type they were designed for,
ufsdump for ufs, linux dump for ext2, vxdump for Veritas, etc., and only
for a raw device (some will do subdirectories, but then can't update
dumpdates appropriately.

Use tar instead for an NFS mounted filesystem.
