Best guess - look at the size of your holding disk.  

        If the 28 GB save won't fit in there, then it will go direct to
tape.  

        See if the disk subsystem is able to keep the tape streaming.  If
you see lots of stop/start of the tape, then the tape is being starved.

        Do you have your tape and disks on the same SCSI bus?  (Hopefully
not!!)

        Do you have anything else competing with the disk and tape for
system resources?


Performance issues are almost always symptoms of misconfiguration or a
system that is too small for its workload.  Check your configuration to see
what is applicable here.

No compression....i don't understand why it takes so long to dump?
On the other machine we have running Amanda it dumps 5 gig in 25
minutes....what should I look for? I'm at a total loss...
