I have obtained a copy of dsmsched.log from one of the offending
systems. I don't have the ability to log on to the client system
involved, but I have access to a shared folder on the system.

It appears that there is a large segment of the folder tree on one
of the drives in which TSM is backing up every folder every day,
but is backing up very few of the files contained in the folders.
I suspect that the file backups that do occur are the result of
genuine update activity.

I checked the permissions on some of the files in a folder descended
from the shared folder mentioned above. The file permissions were all
inherited from the containing folder. The folder has been backed up
every day, but the files have not been backed up. This would appear
to rule out the possibility that the massive backups are the result
of ACL changes propagating down the folder tree.

I used Internet Explorer to look at the creation and update times for
some of the folders within the shared folder. Most of these times were
months or even years in the past.
