Q1 - Has anyone ever (successfully) migrated their databases from AIX to Solaris? We have a lot of ipmap customizing that I would like to keep in tact if possible.

Won't happen, you can take a dump of your database and use it
as your seedfile to insure the same discovery

Q2 - Would location.conf be any help if new discovery is required? I can't find any doc on how to create a location.conf of my current ipmap short of the tool some people call "vi" (I call it lots of other things whenever I have to use it).

vi is a beautiful thing! That aside, there is a tool available from the
user group web page(somebody please shoot over the URL) called
build_location. With that script, you can take an ovmapdump and
create the location.conf. This should draw the map, just as you have
it now, once the new discovery is complete. You might have to move
the locations around to make it look the same, but fucntionally
everything should be in the correct container.

Q3 - I could upgrade to v7.1.3 plus fixpack vice v7.1.4 plus fixpack. Any reason to NOT go with v7.1.4 on Solaris?

Not that I am aware of, anyone else got any thoughts?
