I was wondering what folks are doing to monitoring routers and interfaces.
I have about 800 cisco routers in my network. I need to monitor all the
interfaces on these routers and provide intelligent notification of events.
Primarily I use popup notifications configured in Event configuration for
trapd. I know I can also use rulesets.

Here is an example. I have a router with a loopback, ethernet, 2 WAN links.
I need to provide notification to my operators when the site goes down. It
is easy to determine when the site is down via a unreachable or router down
event. I can also alert when a single interface goes down via an interface
up/down event. The problem is that when a router is completely down I get a
notification for the entire router being down as well as a notification for
each interface. What tools or products exists to provide some intelligence
to the traps stream to give my operators more concise alerts.
