Mike,
First, let me say that these are strangely behaving devices that are a hybrid of a router and a switch.
There are many things that need to be monitored in addition to IP Interfaces.
In my case, I have a similar situation to yours. My CSS-ArrowPoints are in the DMZ, behind firewalls.
You have to work with your "Firewall People" to get ping and SNMP traffic allowed.
The firewalls are going to do NAT, so you will need to configure the CSS-ArrowPoint static routes and default gateway accordingly.

Secondly, these CSS-ArrowPoints do not respond to a demand poll properly (read as bug). The address table may not be reported properly. I have had to manually add interfaces with Edit --> Add --> Interface.

If you put a ($) in your seed file to force SNMP only status polling, the interfaces still will not be polled as normally happens with any "normal" router.

I have written a script to SNMP poll my CSS-ArrowPoints and report the status of VLANs, Services and Physical ports and generate traps if there is a failure. Ping and normal snmp polling will not catch these events. Here is a sample of the output of my script:

*******************************************************************************

Subject: [nv-l] Managing Cisco Content Service Switches with snmp

Hi everybody,

I have NV7.1 running on Solaris7. My Netview Server is located behind a
firewall that permits me to poll devices with snmp. I have some Cisco CCS's
(formerly known as Arrowpoint with Software 4.01)  that I have to manage. I
can do a snmpwalk (and a demand poll) but these devices went in status
unreachable. What can I do (without pinging) to get these devices into a
status managed (green). I think there is a problem with interface to address
mapping.

Regards

Mike Irmer
