Aptare! Aptare! Aptare!
I've been using Symantec's reporting packages as far back as I can remember and
have never been impressed. I started using Aptare at my last gig, just recently
brought it here, and love it to death.
Rarely in my 17 years of doing IT have I ever so highly recommended any type of
product. Aptare is absolutely dead-on the most bang-for-the-buck product I've
dropped money on. (no I don't work for Aptare haha)
It uses an oracle backend that you have full access to. (Oracle license is
bundled with the product) You have the ability to create custom reports for
virtually any thing you can think of. It has one of the best web-based
interfaces I've ever seen that works flawlessly from any browser and operating
system. (major kudos)
At one point Aptare was even cheaper than Symantec's NBR and it is orders of
magnitude better.
I highly recommend you schedule a demo. You'll walk away drooling.
They also integrate Capacity manager for storage (this piece can get pricey),
Fabric Manager, Virtualization Manager, and Replication Manager. They also have
a file analytics piece (that was hella cheap, like $3k for the almost petabyte
of storage we have) that can troll thru your data and report on things like
data that hasn't been accessed, it can find contraband data like mp3's and
etc...
www.aptare.com -- check them out, schedule a demo. (allocate 3 hrs because
you'll be asking a lot of questions)
