I use Aptare and I also just installed and evaluated NOM V6MP4. NOM is very
similar to the old CCstor which we evaluated when we chose Aptare. NOM has
nowhere near the function of Aptare and I do not like the interface. In
addition Symantec just announced a new product that will be doing backup
reporting (Backup Reporter). I think this means that the free NOM product is
probably not going to receive much love and the new product that will cost you
money and it will get the attention. So NOM is not going to catch up to Aptare
and I have little confidence in the Backup Reporter product either.

Backup Reporter already has a few things I don't like. Primarily it normalizes
messages from the backup products. Instead of getting a NetBackup 150 or a TSM
(whatever the code is) you will get a standard job was cancelled message, but
you may not know it was specifically a 150. Aptare does not normalize messages
so if you are running NetBackup, TSM and Legato you will get the product
specific information you need to do your job.

So Symantec is rolling out the next 6th remake of a backup reporting product in
about as many years (Advanced Reporter, Storage Track, GDM, Command Central,
NOM, Backup Reporter). Did I miss anything? I want to see a stable product
for at least 2-3 years before I look at Symantec's backup reporting again.

Does anyone use netbackup 6.0 and the Aptare reporting software? With NOM
being part of 6.0 is there still a need to have Aptare?
