that you get into testing data transfer performance outside of NBU by
testing things like ftp speed etc

Hi Dieter,
When you say "good" I will assume you mean compared to the theoretical
maximum and compared to what other people can achieve. Well firstly you
need to consider what the theoretical maximum is for your hardware,
depending on what type of SDLT you have then u will have a maximum of at
least 15MB/sec uncompressed, your network will be at least 100Mbit so is
12.5MB/sec - and your actual throughput is (((512*1024)/23)/60)/60 =
6.3MB/sec. So in conclusion your performance would not appear to be
particularly good, particularly if you are using gigabit Ethernet. There
are of course other factors and I've had to speculate on your config as
you didn't post sufficient detail,

I have been watching this discussion and trying to compare with our
config.
Solaris 9 master/media server with a storagetek robot using SDLT tape.
Many assorted windows and unix clients.
All at 5.1 mp 4
One particular windows client is a NAS file server. This is backing up
over a gigabit network.
This is approaching 0.5 terabyte and take 23 hours to backup at 4-5
Mb/sec. Not sure what M stands for!
I'm trying to determine if this is good or bad. We can not test a large
ftp because of the setup on the client.
