If you manually mount a tape and do an mt -f /dev/rmt/$DEVNUM stat=20

Are you getting the proper return?

If so, verify the drive density is the same as the storage unit.

That's a good point. See if you can pinpoint the error to a tape or set
of tapes. look at the /usr/openv/netbackup/db/media/errors log file to
see if there is a specific tape causing the issue.
