I was the one who derailed the thread with questions of my own
environment. We are Red Hat 4.6 across some 50 database machines, but
misc. servers are everything from Red Hat 8.0 and RHEL 2.1 to 5.2. I
would like my backup server to be as stable as possible and 4.6 is a
known platform and package-availability to us...
