This article is relevant for clients running an old version of the

Legato "large file aware"?

Yes Legato is large file aware, the 2GB save set limitation is ancient history.

Well, yes and no. Remember that some platforms are still supported with
clients that are based on pre-V6 code. It doesn't matter if you're using
a 7.1.3 or 7.2.1 server if your client software is still pre-V6. That
was the case for NetWare until just a few weeks ago, when a true V7 client
was released for that platform. There may be other platforms that have
the same limitations.

You're right, though, that whether savesets can be larger than 2 GB (or
whether they're "chunked" into continuation savesets, as was done with
pre-V6 clients) or not has nothing to do with Teresa's question.

I don't have any experience yet with advanced file type devices, but I
would be pretty shocked if NetWorker on Solaris 9 (whether or not its
the 64 bit server) couldn't use adv_file devices in the TB size range.

Interestingly enough, when writing to tape, NetWorker never makes a single
file *on tape* larger than 2 GB. If you have a saveset that consists of
one file that's 5 GB in size, when NetWorker writes it to tape it will
have one saveset id but (at least) three file numbers (mediafile, in
mminfo parlance) on tape. I don't know if it does the same thing when
writing to an adv_file devices. I wouldn't be surprised if it did.

It seems the other responder to your question is feeding you nonsense.

Hopefully I'm not making the situation worse. :-)
