Try writing to a different tape. First off, try running a cleaning tape
through the suspect tape drive. Try reading a tape too. What kind of tape
library are your SAIT-1 drives mounted in?  If you're using a Sony
PetaSite, give your Sony SE a call. In my experience, Sony is very
responsive with their tech support for SAIT-1 and PetaSite issues, but you
might simply have a faulty tape cartridge on your hands.
