I'm hoping for a little SAN advice so if I reboot my Networker server it
doesn't go to pot... :)

My client finally got the tape library and drive reconnected via SAN
instead of SCSI, and I managed to beat the driver into usability. THey
also added a second tape drive, which caused a bit of confusion (the
drives were "backwards" when jbconfig detected them).

Disclaimer: I am a SAN newbie.

This is on a RedHat AS2.1 server, with a Dell PV-132T and two SDLT320
drives connected via QLA2340, running Networker 7.1.1 (although
Networker is not an issue at the moment)

The contractor who did the SAN work mentioned having to do "persistent
bindings", which I understand - it is not guaranteed in what order
devices will be detected on boot, although all the rebooting I did to
get it working right didn't seem to matter. They have a
"persistent_bindings.sh" script, which when run updates modules.conf -
but it only seems to define itself or something.

Here is the relevant "inquire" data:

                                           ATNN:QUANTUM SDLT320

                                           IENN:00E09E600011B3BB
                                           WWNN:500E09E00011B3BB

The script produced the line (manually wrapping at the ;s:
options qla2300 ql2xopts=scsi-qla0-adapter-port=210000e08b183eb1;
   scsi-qla0-tgt-000-di-00-node=2001006045174c64;
   scsi-qla0-tgt-000-di-00-port=2001006045174c64;

Now, the WWPN corresponds to the node and port listed as target 0 in the
modules.conf line, which appears as above for both entries of the
PV-132T, and is also the only entry in /proc/scsi/qla2300/1 for
scsi-qla0-target.

Now I would expect I should also have to define entries for the two tape
drives, but they don't seem to have WWPNs listed, only WWNNs.

So, am I missing something? Do I not need to define bindings for the
tape drives? Am I totally off the wall? Or is something still not right
with this?

-Brian
