Thanks Riaan, Joel,

Does the advanced file device have to be a filesystem? .. or is it just a
raw veritas volume ie.. /dev/vx/rdsk/devdg/device1
If is uses uasm I can see it being a filesystem.

Riaan, are you saving that it does do compression when saving to one of
these devices..ie a 500GB device may hold
more than 500GB?

Joel, I agree with your device sizing but I believe the license is tiered..
4 5TB devices may cost more in licensing than
20 1TB devices?

Thanks for discussing this.. I rather do that than try to implement the
devices only to find out the disk requirements were
way off.

That's why I think it makes good sense to have 4x5TB devices rather than
20x1TB or 40x500GB. I think the only way to do that is with vxfs/vxvm.

Shawn,

For us non file device folks..

I imagine since it is not a tape drive that the volume is 500GB with no
compression taking place?

I have some clients that are 500GB+ in size.. I rely on the tape drive
compression quite a bit..I can't being to think the amount of file
devices
I would need to do my backups. I would need to stage the fulls to tape
almost immediately after they are backed up ??
