Re: [Networker] Veritas Taking Advantage of Legato Buyout...

Save yourself some pain of cost and maint. by not going with Veritas. The is
35% higher on most of the products and the maint. cost is three times that of
Legato.
Veritas has also tried to hurt Legato with FUD marketing lies. What has
happened Legato is not part of the bigger picture with EMC, the Legato product
lined has grown with the acquisition of OTG. Legato's product is OEM to Sun for
the last 8 years and protects some of the world's largest Sun data centers and
fortune 500, 1000 etc companies.
Veritas has been lucky. With the partnership between Seagate and Veritas they
were able to secure more WIN customers. That is what put them on the map. Plus
you could pick up Backup Exec at Fry's for $75. A workgroup product.
As for Legato development goes you can start with their workgroup product and
scale with ease. But with VRTS Backup Exec you would have to do a full forklift
upgrade to NetBackup. Painful!!!! Consulting $$$
CA Arcserve is good for Netware and nothing else. BrightStor good for WIN and
that is it. Veritas good for killing your IT budget for the year and HP
Omniview=junk. Tivoli free if you buy IBM, =pay for what you get. Retrospect,
Dantz good for MAC and workgroup. Bakbone good for WIN and NetApp. Commvault
good for WIN and easy to use.
Blah blah blah......
>Descounted pricing on our market leading data protection products"
This is interesting. When we recently evaluated migrating from Legato to
Veritas for backup. While Veritas staunchly held their pricing Legato
continued to discount.
Has anyone received a FedEx or email from Legato explaining the current
situation? I have not and actually find this fact more interesting than
Veritas out acquiring new business.
Crazy world.
