Hi Michael;

Our environment:
W2K NetWorker Server, SP2
NetWorker Server v6.1.1 (kept at this level for patch specific reasons)
Clients are all 6.1.1
STK 9740 with the following config:
2 x 9840a's attached to an STK SN3250 to SAN
1 x 9840b attached directly to the SAN
        2 x 9840a's attached via 1 2944UW local to the NW Server

We currently backup 42 servers in total. 2 are NT 4.0 sp6a, 2 are NW411
and the other 38 are all W2K. All clients have nics set to 100 / full
and all switch settings are forced appropriately. We have 2 x Gig-E
pipes coming to our server for load balancing as well as a direct SAN
connection with DDS to assist.

NOTE: We currently only have a single server on the SAN in the Backup
Data Zone. So the throughput we see is not solely SAN related.

We currently review the following:

Saving file systems - ~8MB/s
Saving database clients - ~18MB/s
Cloning adds about an extra 1 - 1.5 hrs per group (automated cloning)
due to (non-technical term?) De_streaming. I've heard tell that later
versions of NW don't de_stream when cloning but I'm not 100% on that
point.

Subject: cloning/backup speed in a w2k environment

hello all-
i am new to this group, and have read most everything pertaining to this
subject that i have been able to find in the archive. what i am curious
about is the typical backup and cloning speeds people are achieving in
their similar environments, and their setups (parallelism et al). as you
may guess, since i am new to this group, we are also new to legato's
networker product. as such, any suggestions would be appreciated in the
most basic terms possible (i.e. you would find this setting here...).

our environment:
w2k networker server, sp2
networker server v6.1.3
clients mixed 6.1.2 & a few 6.1.3
adic scalar 100 jukebox w/two ibm ultrium lto drives
backing up 4 w2k servers, sp2, and one hp-ux 11 server

we are getting ~3mb/s on backups, and ~1.5mb/s cloning. the drives are
rated at 15mb/s, and we have the nics set at 100mbps/fd.

thanx for any responses.
