This is more a general backup question than specific
to networker.

At the moment I am using a tape silo with LTO (version 1)
drives. The time has come to upgrade and I have several
choices.

1) Install LTO 2 drives.
2) Buy another silo with LTO (I or II) or SDLT.

Can someone please answer the following:

a) My understanding is that LTO II will write to LTO I
media in a different format which will give
me 140GB on the same media. Confirm?

b) SDLT 320 uses the same media as SDLT 220 (hope I am getting the numbers
right) and has a capacity of 160GB. Confirm?

c) When will the next generation SDLT drives be released and what is
        there capacity?

My current drives are IBM and I am not particulary happy with them.
I understand the HP drives do variable speed write. Does anybody
know if the new IBM LTO II drives will do variable speed write?

Regards,
pdg
