Michael,

Our environment is:
Windows-NT 4.0 server, sp6 (we will go to W2K sometime this year)
Networker 5.5.2.Build 165 (will upgrade to 6.x sometime this year)
Clients 6 NT 4.0 servers, 1 W2k workstation, 1 Solaris 7 system all with 5.x
clients
1 Spectralogic Bullfrog (10000) tape library with 2 AIT-II drives
100 mbps network backbone. The W2k client is backed up over a 10mbps leg.

We generally get ~5 MB/s backing up and ~6-7 MB/s cloning. Those are the
numbers I see on the GUI when the backup is running. Our actual number is
somewhat lower because one of the NT4.0 servers has about 2/3 of the total
data we back up on 3 logical drives and so on a full backup it goes full
speed for about 1.5 hours and spends the last 4 hours finishing off the big
drives as a somewhat slower speed (around 1.5 MB/s per drive I think).

So our full backup takes around 7 hours and the automatic cloning that
follows takes about 5 hours (for about 80 GB total).

Subject: [Networker] cloning/backup speed in a w2k environment

hello all-
i am new to this group, and have read most everything pertaining to this
subject that i have been able to find in the archive. what i am curious
about is the typical backup and cloning speeds people are achieving in
their similar environments, and their setups (parallelism et al). as you
may guess, since i am new to this group, we are also new to legato's
networker product. as such, any suggestions would be appreciated in the
most basic terms possible (i.e. you would find this setting here...).

our environment:
w2k networker server, sp2
networker server v6.1.3
clients mixed 6.1.2 & a few 6.1.3
adic scalar 100 jukebox w/two ibm ultrium lto drives
backing up 4 w2k servers, sp2, and one hp-ux 11 server

we are getting ~3mb/s on backups, and ~1.5mb/s cloning. the drives are
rated at 15mb/s, and we have the nics set at 100mbps/fd.

thanx for any responses.
