With our storage nodes I have had to create separate ppools. My main backup
server is an HP Unix N classmachine with a blocksize of 256. My storage
nodes are on NT Windows 2000 machines where the blocksize is 128. The pools
separate what tapes are used by the nodes (128) and what are used by the
Unux backup server (256), though the indexes are all allowed to be written
by the Unix server.

It's not clear whether the Storage Node is able to read the label, but
can't find it in media index, or can it not read the label at all. Can
you
see from the logs whether it can read the label? If not, could it be a
block size mismatch between the two servers? From your server, try:

"nsrjb -ln -f rd=<snhostname>:<sndevname> -S <slot>" (to load a tape
into "remote" device without mounting)
"scanner -v rd=<snhostname>:<sndevname>"

and see if you get intelligible information. If not, you'll have to
look
into SCSI adapter registry settings on Storage Node, or limit block size
on
server to same as Storage Node (can be done
with "NSR_DEV_BLOCK_SIZE_<devtype>" environment variable - see manual).
